Pinterest is a visual discovery engine for finding ideas like recipes, home and garden inspiration, travel ideas and much more. With billions of Pins on Pinterest, you'll always find ideas to spark inspiration. When you discover Pins you love, save them to boards to keep your ideas organized and easy to find. Pins are ideas presented visually, created by people using Pinterest. You can create your own, or find others peoples and save these to your boards.
As you discover Pins you love, click the red Save button to save them to your boards. Your Pinterest board is basically like an online photo album or dream board. If you save a pin, they will be stored on your boards.
You can create different boards for different topics and arrange these on your profile however you like.
When you post a pin, you add a header and a description and then link the pin to your website. So if a pinterest user likes your pin and clicks on it, they will be taken to your website. This makes it a perfect way for driving free traffic.
Why Pinterest is so Good for Business
Pinterest is the social media of choice for so many businesses because the users on Pinterest are more ready to buy products or services.
They are using the platform as a way to get ideas for things to buy rather than just to be entertained like on Youtube or Instagram.
Business can use this as a way target people who are looking to buy now, not just to gather information on or look at reviews. This prevents you from wasting time or money driving traffic that is never going to buy.
Whether your business is primarily based online or not, Pinterest marketing can help significantly grow your business. Even if you are not based online, you need an online presence of some sort these days and pinterest is a great way to grow this presence.
Pinterest allows its users to create pins and then link their own website to this pin. This means if someone is browsing pinterest and is interested in your pin, they click on it and are taken to your website to get more information or buy your product/service.
It's a great tool for reaching your target market, especially those in a narrow niche. You want to spend time finding topics and keywords related to your business and target audience.
For example, if you run a travel blog, and have a blog post about getting cheap flights around the world. Then you want to create a pin and use hashtags to target people looking for #travel #budgettravel #cheapflights.
Creating your Pinterest Content
Canva is by far the best free online design tool for making Pins. They have a paid membership, but everything I need to use on there is free and it's so easy to bulk create pins on their platform.
I have never been good at graphic design or creating art, but Canva helps streamline the process for users. They offer 100's of free templates for pinterest graphics for you to customise.
My technique is to choose 20 different templates that I like, then go through and change the photos to something more relevant to my business. Then I will edit the text on the Pin to something that will spark my viewers attention and make them want to read more.
Tip: Pinterest ranks original photos higher than photos that have been used on the platform before. So if possible, try to use original photos that you have taken. This will help you rank better and get more Pinterest traffic.
Each time I write a new blog post, I will go onto Canva and create at least 5 new pins related to that one post.
When trying to find inspiration for creating pins, I would do a search for topics that relate to your niche. This will allow you to see what pins are already ranking for your search terms and give you an idea of what content works in this area.
How to get More Followers and Traffic on Pinterest for Free
There are a few ways to grow your Pinterest account and start to get more free traffic. The methods we use are Tailwind, Consistent Publishing of Pins and the Follow for Follow method.

The way to maximise your pinterest growth with Tailwind is by sharing your pins to Tailwind Tribes.
Tribes is a tool that allows you to share your pins to other pinterest users in similar niches. It encourages reciprocity, because if you share a tribemates pin, they will usually share one of your pins to their boards.
This amplifies your pinterest reach enormously and is the best way to grow your pinterest traffic.
Getting Started with Tribes:
First, go to your pinterest account. Here you need to create 10 pinterest boards, these are like online photo albums, you want to fill each of these boards with 10 unique pins. When creating pinterest boards, it's a good idea to make them relevant to the topics related to your business. You also want to have around 100 followers on your pinterest account before you join any tribes. You can achieve this in a few days simply by following people who say they follow back. When you start your pinterest account, follow 50 - 75 users a day and you should have your first 100 followers in no time.
This will make your pinterest account look much more professional and you are more likely to be accepted into the best tribes.
Most tribes have a rule of sharing one tribemates pin, per every pin you upload to the tribe. So be sure to start sharing your tribemates posts on your own pinterest account. This will ensure that your pins get shared too. The more of your tribemates pins that you share, the more of your own pins you can share.

However, if you aren't looking to spend any money on tailwind, I have discovered a free hack that skyrockets your pinterest traffic.
The Hack: Create 3 or 4 fake pinterest accounts with different email addresses. Then create a tailwind account for each of these pinterest accounts. This will take you about 5 minutes per account. Once you are logged into Tailwind in one of your fake accounts, join 5 tribes and share some of your tribemates pins to get started. Then, while still logged into your fake account, you want to go to pinterest and search for your main Pinterest account. Click on some of your recent pins and add them to your fake accounts scheduler. Share these pins with your new tribes and repeat this process for all of the fake accounts you create.
By creating 4 new pinterest and tailwind accounts. You will have access to 20 new tribes (5 tribes per free account) and to 120 scheduled posts (30 scheduled posts per month on a free account). This will quadruple your pinterest traffic, for free!
