Traveling the world doesn’t have to be expensive. You don’t need to work for months, saving up a huge sum of money, just to blow it on a two-week getaway.

The amount of ways to make money while traveling is insane. More and more opportunities arise every day. Especially with nearly every business in the world working remotely after COVID-19.

You don’t have to find a job in your home town and work till you’ve got enough money to travel. It's entirely possible to work while you travel, earning and saving money on the road to fund more traveling. Who doesn't want to work while exploring the world?

The options are truly endless. You can find paid travel jobs, become a digital nomad, or start your own travel business that pays you while you travel. We have come up with 4 categories of work that can be done simultaneously with travel.

  1. Find a Job at Your Destination

  2. Digital Nomad/Freelancing

  3. Run Your Own Business

  4. Work Remotely

How to Make Money While Traveling

1. Find a Job at Your Destination

This option provides limited time and location freedom but it can be a great way to make some much-needed money while you travel. It allows you to experience how other cultures work and interact on a deeper level. It’s a great way to see a country in a different way and truly interact with the local’s way of life.

Manual Labor or looking after children seems to be the job of choice for most. Even after the COVID-19 Lockdown, there is still a high demand for seasonal workers, and Aupairs.

English speakers can find paid travel opportunities in foreign countries as an English teacher, working on a yacht or in a hostel. There is a massive demand for English speaking workers in the hospitality and teaching industries.

Some of the easiest jobs to find at your destination are listed below. Anyone can try these jobs and travel the world while making money. Check this post out for a more in-depth list of paid travel jobs.

  • Nanny/Aupair

  • Seasonal Worker

  • Work Exchange

  • House SItter

  • Hostel Worker

  • English Teacher

Work exchange is a popular way for travelers to get off the beaten track and truly experience a culture. You work for 4-6 hours per day in exchange for free lodging and meals, living with the locals, and trying local cuisines.

House Sitting is where homeowners need someone to look after their home and pets while they are away on their own travels. Providing free accommodation and cash in exchange for security and peace of mind.

2. Digital Nomad/Freelancing

If you want full location freedom with your work. This is the answer. As long as you have a laptop and an internet connection, you can work wherever you want. This way of life has been growing in popularity over the last 20 years and will only attract more people in the future.

An unprecedented rise in online workers in 2020 has made the freelancing option a little more competitive. But there are still millions of gigs online for budding freelancers. The main key to landing jobs as a freelancer is building a quality profile, applying for as many jobs as you can, and building a reputation through reviews.

Fiverr, UpWork, and Airtasker are the three sites I started my freelancing career on, I recommend building a profile and applying for jobs on all 3 sites. This will expand your reach and help you build a base of recurring gigs easily, you just need to manage your workload successfully.

These jobs are entirely remote and a great way to get paid for your own travel adventures. A few of the jobs that allow you to make money while you travel are:

  • Web Developer

  • Writer/Blogger

  • Photographer

  • Social Media Manager

  • Video Editor

The amount you can make as a digital freelancer will vary. Everyone thinks that travelers are all broke, but if you work hard as a freelancer online you can make some serious money while traveling. There are extremely high paying gigs for freelancers, you just have to find them.

3. Run Your Own Business

The ultimate freedom to travel the world and make money. You are in control of when you work, how often you work and where you want to work. If you currently run an online business, why stay at your own home? You can do it anywhere in the world.

The more hours you put into your business, the more you will be rewarded. If you haven't started traveling yet, it's the perfect time to start your business. Put as many hours in as you can now so that your business is paying you by the time you hit the road.

Starting a business will require a small financial investment to begin, but this can be as little as $25. The real investment is your time. The hours you put in will not be directly financially compensated, so if you need cash now, go for the freelancing option. • Online Shop

  • Blog

  • Influencer

  • Consultant/Coach

  • E-Book Author

This is my favorite way to make money when traveling. All the work you do goes into your business, as it grows you build a digital asset. Starting a business is an investment in the future. The money could come months or years down the track.

If you currently have a regular income, start putting in the time to build your business as a side gig. Then once it pays you enough, you can take it full time and travel the world.

4. Work Remotely

2020 sparked a revolution in the way the global workforce operates. Billions of people worldwide were forced to work remotely, and it worked. Businesses are reporting higher productivity rates. People don’t need to be in an office to work. Even when the world returns to some sense of normality, businesses will encourage employees to stay working from home. So why not work remotely and start traveling?

This option will require a lot of organization and strong negotiations on your behalf. But, if you have a good job that can be done remotely, ask your bosses to let you travel at the same time. Some jobs that this applies to:

  • Accountant

  • Web Designer

  • Computer Programmer

  • Digital Marketing

For this to work, you need a secure job that can be done remotely - it’ll help if you worked at home during the lockdown - You’ll need to assure your employers that you will still be able to complete all the work required of you and be available for contact when needed. If you can do that from home, get organized, and do it while you see the world.
